Workers Compensation Support
We understand that experiencing pain or functional limitations due to a work-related accident or injury can be extremely stressful.
At Perth Pain Specialists, our doctors are well versed in handling Workers Compensation injuries in Western Australia. Our Specialist Pain Management doctors are trained to accurately assess your injuries and provide tailored advice to help you manage your pain and return to work goals.
When Should I Report My Injury?
If you have been injured at work, the first step is to notify your employer. You will need to see your General Practitioner (GP). It is important to know that you can choose your own medical experts for advice and treatment.
What Happens Once My Claim Is Accepted?
Once your claim is accepted, you will receive coverage for lost wages and expenses related to the medical treatment for your injury.
What Are My Employer’s Obligations?
Workers’ compensation in Western Australia operates under the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981. All employers must have a workers’ compensation policy. Insurers (such as Allianz, GIO, QBE, etc.) manage claims and support your recovery.
How Do I Seek a Specialist Opinion for My Pain Management?
As a patient, you can choose your treating specialist. If your pain has persisted for more than 3 months or limiting your ability to work, it is appropriate to seek specialist advice. Speak with your GP and case manager if you would like to see one of our doctors.
What Is the Role of a Pain Specialist in Work-Related Injury Management?
- Diagnosis and Assessment: Pain Specialists have specialised knowledge to make specific pain diagnoses. We assess the underlying cause of pain and its overall impact on your functionality and return to work.
- Treatment Planning: Pain management specialists develop comprehensive treatment plans to relieve, reduce, or manage pain. This involves minimally invasive procedures, medications, or infusions to target specific pain sources and prevent further deterioration.
- Rehabilitation: We collaborate closely with allied health professionals to support your recovery and return to work planning.
- Medicolegal Reports: We provide comprehensive reports that assist patients, solicitors, and insurance companies in their decision-making process. These reports help understand the cause of your pain and its impact on your ability to work.
Who Is Responsible for Treatment Costs?
Your treating specialist will liaise with your insurer for approval to proceed with any treatment recommendations. Once approval is granted, all fees will be directed to the insurance company, with no out-of-pocket expenses for patients.
What Happens Once I Get Approval for My Treatments?
Once your treating specialist has obtained approval from your insurer for your treatment, we will contact you to arrange a time for your treatment. We will continue to assess and monitor you after treatment and provide ongoing support to help you recover.
